ITV News Virtual Set Designs

ITV News Virtual Set Designed by Jim Mann at Lightwell

My design work in the field of virtual sets was recently featured in a Vizrt blog – From architecture to virtual TV sets. The blog post followed a thread covering my earliest designs for the Tricaster, through to more recent work powered by Vizrt’s Viz Engine combined with the Unreal Engine. In addition to covering my recent designs for the BBC’s Olympics virtual sets, this was an opportunity to revisit the work I did for ITN, on the ITV News virtual sets. These designs first launched in 2013, and despite some updates to details and parts of the layout, the versions on air today, are more-or-less the same versions that launched 12 years ago.

Although this particular design has been on-air for 12 years, we had never managed to get high resolution grabs from any of the broadcasts. To illustrate the blog post, ITN kindly supported us by providing a batch of up-to-date recordings from which we were able to collect the clips and stills shown here. Details of this project are featured on the Lightwell Website.
